Job description
Role overview
Kepler Communications is building the first commercial optical data relay constellation to enable real-time space communications. As a Staff Backend Developer, you'll design and scale backend systems that power our satellite network, supporting real-time data transmission and on-orbit compute capabilities. The role requires expertise in distributed systems, API development, and cloud infrastructure to support our mission of transforming space-based connectivity.
Our backend systems handle critical satellite operations, including command and control, data relay, and hosted payload orchestration. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, ensure reliability, and implement security best practices in a rapidly evolving space tech environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and scale backend systems for satellite command, control, and data relay operations
- Develop high-performance APIs for real-time space communication infrastructure
- Optimize distributed systems for reliability and low-latency performance
- Collaborate with satellite operations teams to integrate backend systems with space assets
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and security protocols for mission-critical applications
Requirements
- 5+ years building scalable backend systems with Python/Go
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture
- Experience with real-time data processing and low-latency system optimization
- Knowledge of satellite communications or space systems a plus
Benefits
- Remote/hybrid work flexibility
- Competitive salary + equity participation
- Professional development budget and certifications
